Our son Jake was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocitic Leukemia shortly before he turned 2. Our world was turned upside down in 2003 and we were thrown into the world of pediatric cancer. What we discovered quickly was that we were not in control of anything! Jake’s treatment involved many hospital stays, surgeries, chemotherapy, IV’s, hair loss, weight gain, weight loss, sleepless nights, fevers, middle of the night hospital runs, and total chaos. We quickly learned that organizations like CURE Childhood Cancer were already in place and marching towards something we desperately needed. A CURE! Jake made it through two years of a three year protocol and he relapsed. His treatment was not working. He endured two more years of chemotherapy, radiation, sickness, missed school, more fevers, hospital stays, and hair loss. Without the focused funding of pediatric cancers and the local focus of CURE Childhood Cancer, we aren’t sure where Jake would be today. However, he made it through. Jake is now 8 years old, completed 2nd grade and is coming up on 2 years cancer-free. We are thankful for the work of CURE Childhood Cancer and hope you will support us in the fight against pediatric cancer.
